Gamers have been waiting a long time for the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. Originally slated to be released in the first half of 2006, the game has finally gone gold after repeated delays, and is now due in stores on May 20 in the US and May 23 in Europe. |

Massively multiplayer games are usually pretty abstract. You pretend to be some kind of elf who goes out and repeatedly whacks skeletons and giant rats with big swings of a rusty sword as your computer does a bunch of invisible math to determine whether or not you hit. If you survive, you gain experience points, and maybe some treasure. |

Ironically, the period following the 2005 announcement of Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures has also felt like an eon, thanks to several delays. |

It wouldn't be the 2008 Game Developers Conference without games to show, and we took the opportunity to take an updated look at Funcom's Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. The upcoming online game takes place in the savage, brutal fantasy world created by author Robert E. Howard, and it's continued to show progress along the course of its development over the past four-and-a-half years. |

It's impossible to think of Robert E. Howard's iconic Cimmerian barbarian without also thinking of the brutal, lawless, and lewdly wanton Hyborian Age in which Conan dwells. That's exactly the tact Norwegian-based Funcom plans to take with the upcoming Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, a fully fledged massively multiplayer online role-playing game in which players delve into a world lorded over by Conan the king. |
